A Bridge in Her Name

20th Street Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge, Chico

On September 24, 2025 — exactly twelve years after Kristina was taken from us — the City of Chico dedicated its new 20th Street Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge. Her family was asked to cut the ribbon. On the anniversary of her passing. In the city where she was riding her bike home from the library when a drunk driver ended her life.

Heartbreaking and beautiful, all at once.

The following is from the Chesterman family:

On Wednesday, September 24th at 6:30 PM, the City of Chico will be holding a dedication for the new 20th Street Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge. This date holds deep meaning for us — it marks 12 years since Kristina was taken from us by a drunk driver while riding her bicycle home from the CSU Chico library.

It feels like such a fitting tribute to Kristina's life and legacy. She loved riding her bike, and this bridge will provide a safe crossing for bicyclists and pedestrians, protecting others from the kind of tragedy that forever changed our family.

We are humbled and honored that our family has been asked to cut the ribbon at this dedication. To do so on the very anniversary of Kristina's passing is both heartbreaking and beautiful — it reminds us of her vibrant spirit, while also marking progress toward safer roads for the Chico community.

We would be honored to have friends, family, and community members join us for this special moment of remembrance and hope.
